SMWS Bottlings Score High In IWSC 2020

The SMWS has scooped a gold medal and five silvers in this year’s International Wine and Spirits Competition!

The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has won high praise from the judges at the International Wine and Spirits Competition for its range of single malt whiskies, with a gold medal and five silvers.

Hot off the heels of winning the coveted ‘Independent bottler of the Year’ three years in a row, to finish 2020 with this huge accolade from the IWSC is the jewel in the crown for the most awarded independent whisky bottler and club on earth.

The Society’s Cask No. 76.145: A beautiful, bountiful beast took the coveted gold medal, which is awarded to “an excellent spirit with an exceptional balance and rare and complex flavours. An example that stands out against its peers.” Cask No. 76.145 is a 32-year-old Speyside bottling which was part of the SMWS programme of additional maturation.

The Society was also awarded silver medals for:

Cask No. G7.15: Mind-altering hugs

Cask No. 53.322: Carpe diem (coming soon to Australian members)

Cask No. 68.34: Roasty-toasty-tasty

Cask No. 112.53: Sophisticated seductive sazerac cocktail

Cask No. 35.251: Elgin marvels

“This is a genuinely significant achievement,” said the judging panel at the IWSC. “This year, we tasted hundreds of spirits at IWSC. All of these were tasted blind by carefully assembled panels of experts, with each spirit tasted individually, and then thoroughly discussed by the panellists. All spirits scoring 90 and above were re-tasted by the Judging Committee for their final confirmation, and to ensure consistency across the tasting – so your success is not to be under-estimated.”
