One of the highlights of the whisky calendar at SMWS, as we’ve been told by members so many times, is the insane pairings created by our resident chocolatier, Krsna Raj from BASIK. His virtual packs and chocolate pairings with Society whiskies are mind-bending flavour experiments that members rave about.
So, for November, we’re ramping things up. Welcome the very limited SMWS Chilli Penguin!
Krsna has taken substantial samples of our recent EXP.01 27yo Chilli Spirit Drink experiment, and created a bespoke chilli rocky road whisky penguin. Using ingredients custom to the project, including the chilli spirit we made, along with dark & milk chocolate couverture shell, SMWS chilli whisky butter caramels (encased in milk chocolate), toasted vanilla bean & coconut marshmallow, cherry raspberry pate de fruit, and almond gianduja. This promises to be a flavour explosion like no other, and something to perhaps pair with our Premium Malt of the Month. This product is not suitable for those with nut or dairy allergies. -

The 'fifth element' of flavour, umami, is all about texture. These three casks as picked by our ambassador are all perfect examples of incredible mouthfeel, which is like the fourth and lesser-talked about aspect of whisky enjoyment. This month’s virtual is a bit silly. Salty snacks, sweet biscuits, great drams, and a bit of chinwag over what we’re tasting. Not ones to take ourselves too seriously, March’s virtual will include 5x single cask samples (30mls each) and a collection of 8x delicious sweet & salty snacks to try and pair with each cask as we go along. Which Society cask pairs well with Shapes Pizza flavour?! Or with a Honey Tiny Teddy. What about Scotch Fingers or Chocolate Chip Cookies?! Well, we’ll find out.
