A lovely, lively, fizzy aroma like opening a bottle of mixed berry sparkling lemonade (black-, blue- and strawberries) and pouring it into a highball glass, plenty of ice with, to add even more sparkle, a good dash of Champagne – keep the fun times rolling! On the palate we added fresh ginger and nutmeg for that extra kick, and in the finish a salty racy Manzanilla Sherry finish. When water was added very fresh and clean, laundry on the line and starched shirts (to go with the 6-piece suit and bow tie) getting ready for the dinner party with that glass of Buck’s Fizz.
Tart gooseberry struck the panel first. Followed hard on the heels by vanilla choc ices, pink hubba bubba, elderberry jam, heather ale, hibiscus and prune flavoured toothpaste. A splash of water unearthed rosemary oil, mango flesh, steamed oak staves, damp bung cloth, maraschino cherries and the olfactory hug of a warm pizza oven. To taste we found white raisins and a milky Horlicks with wet earth, mixed herbs and curious notes of body lotion, shea butter and suntan oil. Reduction gave us a tooth cladding syrupy sweetness with star fruits, pink wafers, milk bottle sweets and cinnamon grahams.
The nose was both captivating and delicious and carried a thick and viscous weight like burnt cream with orange oil. Light perfumed notes of violets and marzipan mingled with a dusting of soft leather and wool before a flurry of fruit brought to the mix pineapple, cherries and plums soaked in Armagnac. After an extended deliberation over the nose pleasing nuances we ventured onto the palate, a ginger tingly affair wrapped in layers of malty sweetness and milk chocolate. Another round of fruit followed that combined peaches and apricots into a sticky jam that was spread over the gentle spiciness of rye bread. A large wedge of salted fudge framed a finish of cardamom, pistachio and ginger herbal tea.
