A typical whisky tasting

For members and their guests, we have a number of tastings and other events scheduled for the coming months. A typical tasting is described below. If you are interested in attending, please use the  contact us form, contact your State Manager or call the Society direct on (02) 9974 3046.
WHAT ARE THE TASTINGS ABOUT...
As a whisky enthusiast, no doubt your palate is attuned to the subtleties of many single malts... but... how well do you know the differences between a highland malt or an island malt, or perhaps a lowland malt?

Come along to our next tasting and test your skills on some of the latest exclusive single malts to arrive on our shores. Finger food, specifically chosen to accentuate and compliment the different flavours in the various whiskies will be served.

The evenings are designed not only to stimulate the palate but also to answer your questions and for general discussion. Come along, practise your nosing and tasting skills and learn more about this fine drop!
A TYPICAL TASTING OVERVIEW

A typical tasting consists of five pre-poured whiskies placed on a table mat which identifies each whisky. Notes on the whiskies are contained in the bottling lists which are supplied, and supplemented by the observations of the presenter.

The whiskies presented are usually the latest imports to give the members a chance to see what is available, and occasionally “bin ends” which are whiskies of which we only have one or two left in stock.

The tastings usually commence with a glass of chilled sherry being offered whilst registration is taking place, and we try to commence the tasting with a sherry-butt matured malt so that the flavour continues through.

Cheese and canapés are served with the tasting in order to offset the effects of the cask strength malts.

Comments are encouraged from the floor and the presenter brings members up to date with the latest goings on of the Society both here and overseas as well as providing an insite into some particular feature of the cult of Whisky. Venues for tastings and their dates are advertised on the web-site and by mail out to members.

Guests of members are particularly welcome and the tastings usually run for an hour and a half and commence at 6.00pm or 6.30pm depending on the city and the venue.

As we import whisky at least four times a year, there are at least 4 tastings in each region each year.
